Obama and Hillary are on the tube right now, campaigning together (Friday, June 27, 12:31 pm). A former co-worker of mine sent me this jpg of what appears to be them at this very campaign stop. He wasted no time in getting this photo out.
He ain't from Texas and he ain't from Kentucky, but he is a dyed-in-the-wool Republican – a conservatives-do-no-wrong Republican. He's a Missouri boy and one who is always touting the Christian faith in his politics. He's always sending out crap (much of which is proven untrue thanks to snopes.com) about race and religion and how evil and anti-Christian all Democrats are.
This pic from him comes right on the heels of my last post on politics and racism and religion. Pertinent. You bet. Thanks to this former co-worker, my point about politics and Christianity was proven. And yes, dear friends, it is with much regret and chagrin that so many of my fellow Christians swim in the pool of racism and discrimination. I don't smile and take joy in the fact that it is true. It makes my blood boil that ignorance, racism, discrimination and hatred run rampant in my religion.
Thus my comment about Christianity when discussing politics and race.

OK, I see what you keep wanting to say but I would look at that picture and ask why it's an example of horrible Christians.
Why not just say your friend is a racist or sexist? The photo would make that case easily. Why do you have to say "and he's a Christian too and there's so many horrible Christians that..."
I'm just trying to understand why it's so important to you to tie Christians into posts on racism and sexism.
Because so many Christians base their political beliefs on their religion. Many times, they use this to promote racism and discrimination (many times in the name of the Lord).
Just because I am a Christian does not mean that I am not critical of many mainline Christian beliefs that do not measure up.
When I see that happening en mass, I believe we should work to bring it to light and hopefully stop it.
Because Christians should be better. Because Christians CAN be better.
As I explained in my story, the person who sent it is always sending out political/religious info that are out and out lies (thanks goodness for snopes.com). He is always attaching Christianity to politics. That's fine. But when he then turns around and send racist crap to me, then I take offense. Christianity is not about racism, or discrimination. I"m going to say something.
It's kinda like sitting in a group of guys. And one tells a joke about three "black guys walk into a bar". You know what I mean, don't you? Many times we sit and laugh even when we disagree. Well, I don't want to. I don't want to politely laugh when he tells a derogatory joke. I want to say something. So I do. And if he is a Christian, then that whole thing about being good on Sunday and being bad the rest of the time comes into play. I've heard that sermon over and over again. I say something.
You are fine to comment about it, and disagree with it. I'm glad you asked the question. I'm happy to discuss my purposes to make this a better world by calling out hypocrisy.
If you wondered if my "agenda" had to do with slamming Christians for fun, then let me put that to rest. I love Christianity and I'm down with Jesus. But I will not sit by and let Christians besmurch (sp) my religion by promoting hatred, discrimination, racism, sexism, etc.
I hope that gives you (and my other readers) a better understanding of my perspective and my passion.
I appreciate the explanation. I certainly agree with this:
"Because Christians should be better. Because Christians CAN be better."
I know what you mean on the coarse joking as well. Paul talked about that and it's something that's very hard to deal with sometimes because people will give the old "it's just a joke" defense (as if it's valid.)
If it is as Mayor Nagin of New Orleans mentioned a "Chocolate City" then what we may have will be a chocolate "White House." Mayor Nagin explained his faux pas as not saying it will be a city of blacks but instead a city with the integration of whites and blacks - hence a chocolate city. Let the Democrats mention the age, etc of an American who has been to "hell" for his country and that is OK. Geriatric jokes et al, but let anyone criticize the Obama and it is racist. I foresee it now. A President Obama not getting his way and the tears will flow because he is a victim of racism. Come on now and let's enjoy the whole show because this freedom of press and expression is the hallmark of our country and they need to weather the storm. If they can't take the heat of an election they sure as hell will not take the fire of people such as Iran's President "I am in a Jihad", "My oh My I am so Daffy" of Libya, and of course the late great, "So Damn Insane" of Iraq.
I will sit back and watch Obama and McCain's characters and then know at election time who is the right man based on their thoughts and plans for America not the sympathies shed on their behalf with name calling etc.

The Muslims base almost all their political beliefs on their religion and they do promote sexism, racism and all other kinds of ism's. But yet it is not correct for us to criticize them. Oh well, we might get along fine with them, caveat with the understanding that we must do it their way or no way. They are so intent on their beliefs that the first to feel the wrath of their agenda will be those who wish to tolerate or cave in to them, and those are the ones who "get along" with homosexuality-[hanging], drugs and alcohol, very heavy jail time or death, incest / rape just getting caught with someone outside the family could get you killed, if female; 5 finger discounts hand and foot amputations and if you do not bow down to Allah - death. Just recently children were held in detention for refusing to pray, as a culture segment, to Allah.

We Christians had better wake up and realize we have a clash of culture and religions that started back with Ishmael and Isaac and this will not be solved by appeasement. 130 wars or skirmishes going on and the peaceful religion of Islam is involved in almost everyone. Try an experiment. Google in the expression with quotes "Muslims Outraged" and see how many hits. Try that with Christians or Jews or Catholics or Buddhists or Republicans or Democrats and you can find the hierarchy of anger ---it will surprise you.
